VENUS, TX (CBSDFW.COM) - The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed that a 3.4 magnitude quake occurred in Johnson County, TX near the town of Venus.
The temblor struck Saturday night at 11:52pm CST near the Johnson/Ellis county line. Residents began reporting the event on social media shortly before midnight.
According to the USGS, the quake occurred about four miles north/northwest of Venus, TX and five miles south/southeast of Mansfield, TX.
Debbie Barns posted on the CBSDFW Facebook page that she felt the shaking “six miles south of Alvarado near I35!! Scary, never felt any before.” Shelley Jennings Luke also posted a report. “Heard a small bang (thought something fell on house from the wind) and then my seat shook back and forth for about 2 seconds. Several area residents reported feeling two jolts – one large and one a bit smaller immediately after.
CBSDFW’s Geoff Petrulis reported feeling the quake just before midnight in Mansfield, TX. “It sounded like a truck rolling by and hitting the house. It shook the sofa I was sitting on.” Petrulis also reported feeling two jolts.
Johnson County Emergency Management tweeted that there were no immediate reports of damage.
This is the latest of several tremors that have rocked north Texas in the last several days. A 2.7 magnitude quake rocked Irving, TX on November 25. That was the fifth quake in a series of five felt in that area.
